A solar power plant developed by Solmar Consulting and Korkia has received final building permit in Loviisa, Finland

The Musa solar power park project in Loviisa has been granted a legally binding building permit. Jointly developed by Solmar Consulting and Korkia, the solar power park will have a maximum capacity of 80 MW of renewable electricity, equivalent to the annual consumption of around 5000 electrically heated detached houses.

To complement the solar power plant, a 30 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) has been approved for the site, enabling optimal use of the grid connection capacity.

The land lease agreements for the area of about 115 hectares were signed in spring 2024, and the environmental, stormwater, soil and landscape surveys needed for the building permit were conducted in summer 2024.

The solar power park area consists of several smaller sections that have been placed on less productive farmland and forest land. This way, the majority of the area's fields will remain in agricultural use, and the project also supports the conditions and vitality of local farming.

“The project has progressed in excellent cooperation with landowners, Loviisa city and the authorities. Our goal is to bring long-term value to landowners, local businesses and municipalities”, says Jari Marttinen, Managing Director of Solmar Consulting.

“I am delighted that he first of the many planned solar power projects in Loviisa has now received a building permit. One of the remarkable features of this project is that the solar power plant has been planned in collaboration with landowners and in mutual understanding with local residents", says Tomas Björkroth, Mayor of Loviisa city.

"We have developed the Musa solar power project in close cooperation with landowners and other stakeholders. A new aspect of the project has been combining several smaller, separate areas into one entity. This approach has helped minimize the project's landscape and other impacts. The project supports the vitality of the region and contributes to Finland’s goal of increasing electricity production based on renewable energy”, says Peter Tuominen, Project Manager at Solmar Consulting.

“The solar park’s location on the southern coast of Finland ensures exceptionally high energy production. Above-average electricity generation combined with favorable construction conditions makes the solar park one of the most competitive in Finland", says Matti Manner, Head of Solar Project Development in Finland at Korkia.
